Bijvoet wrote about the theatre auditorium as follows: ‘The auditorium aims to be tightly concentrated, and tries to preserve the intimate, enclosed atmosphere that newer theatres often risk losing. For this reason we have kept the volumes of the auditorium and the distances between the spectators and the stage to a minimum.

The stage, in contrast, is very spacious, and will permit the use of a ‘cyclorama’, which offers great practical advantages and new possibilities in terms of theatre technique. I believe such a potential has not yet been created in the Netherlands.’ (1955)
